General

Bring your passport and insurance card for verification.
For blood test
appointments, please check with the doctor or nurses if
fasting is necessary before the
procedure.
Bring your
Family Doctor Referral Letter if you have one.
Exercise Stress Test (Treadmill
Test)
Do not eat or drink for 4 hours before the test, especially caffeinated items.
If you are on regular medication, ask your doctor if you need to stop taking them before the test.
During the test,
please adorn light exercise clothing
and jogging shoes.
Gastroscopy
Please do not consume any food or drinks for 4 to 6 hours prior to the scheduled examination.
Colonoscopy
Patients will be given the following:
- Two bottles of Phosphates
solution (45 mls)
- One sachet of Fortrans Preparation
If your procedure is
scheduled in the morning, start drinking the solutions the
evening before.
If your procedure is
scheduled in the afternoon, start drinking the solutions in
the morning.
It is preferable for the
patient to take meals with little fibre (fruits and
vegetables) a day
before the
appointment.
Ultrasound
Examinations
a) For Abdomen / Liver, Kidneys &
Gallbladder
Please do not consume any food or drinks for 4 to 6 hours prior to the scheduled examination
- Morning appointment: No
breakfast
- Afternoon appointment:
Light breakfast but NO lunch
Please
refrain from smoking on the day of examination.
Please note that eating, drinking and
smoking will stimulate the organs and make accurate diagnosis difficult.
Should you be thirsty, you may have a
sip of plain water.
b) For Pelvis (Uterus, Ovaries &
Adnexa) / Kidneys & Urinary Bladder / Dating Scans
(1st Trimestar
Pregnancy)
You may consume food and
drinks.
Drink four to five glasses of
water or any drinks one hour prior to the examination time.
Do not empty bladder until examination
is completed. A full bladder is essential and important
to visualise the pelvic organs.
c) For Kidneys / Thyroid and Focussed Breast
Scan
No specific preparation or restrictions required unless requested by doctors .
